Dirt Cup 2016 Format:

Drivers will compete on both qualifying nights as combined points from Heat Races, Qualifiers, B-Mains, and A-Mains will set the lineup for Saturday night. Any tie in points will be broken by Friday’s passing point totals.

ASCS Format will be utilized with draw in for Heat Race starting position and passing points to determine drivers who advance to Qualifiers and B-Mains.

Top 30 in Passing Points from Heat Races will move into Qualifiers. Remainder will fall to the tail of the night’s “B” Features. Top 18 will be inverted with the highest point earner from Heat Races starting sixth in the first Qualifier. Qualifiers will be 8 laps each. Passing Points will be utilized with the driver’s total points combined with their Heat Race total. The top 16 in combined Passing Points will advance to the A-Feature. Drivers will not redraw for their starting position. Lineup is straight up by the combined Passing Point total. The remainder will fall into B-Features. Number of B-Features is dependent upon the number of cars. 40-50 cars means remaining drivers will drop into two “B” Features. 51-60 will drop into three “B” Features. Lineup will be done by passing point totals with 17th going to the pole of the first “B” Feature, 18th to the pole of the second “B” Feature, etc.

If one B is needed, the top 6 drivers will advance to the A-Feature. If two B's, then the top three, if three B's, then the top two.

Following Friday night, driver's combined points will be tallied with the top 16 drivers locked into Saturday's A-Feature. Ranking 17-48 will be split among two B-Features with 17th to the pole of the first B-Main, 18th to the pole of the second B-Main, 19th to the outside front row of the first B-Main, 20th to the outside front row in the second B-Main; continuing down until each B-Main has 16 cars. The remainder will fall into a Last Chance qualifier, taking the top 4 drivers with the winner and third place taking the final two spots in the first B-Feature. Second and fourth will take the final two spots in the second B-Feature. In case of a tie, the advantage will be to the driver with the highest finish on Friday night.

Driver Provisionals based on points with the Lucas Oil ASCS will be suspended for this event only.

Each race pays event points to determine Saturday’s lineups.

I saw a list somewhere it may have been on facebook.

Willie Croft was going to come up, but with the weather NO California cars are coming up is what Willie Croft put on facebook.
Reason being it was during Speedweek so it made since for them to race their way to dirt cup.
Cottage Grove for years always had a 410 show on tuesday of dirt cup.

Check facebook to see whats going on. What a total waste of time! California cars not coming because of a little rain. Whats new about that? Thursday looks bad and Friday is iffy but Sat& Sunday is full tilt SUN forecast... No problem. Steve will get the show in! I hope he gets the support he deserves. Still no answer to my question, How many cars are enterd

39 pre-entered with an additional 11 possible on unofficial pre-entry list. That was shared on many FB pages.

Looking at the weather, good chance it will be two shows on Saturday. First day of DC in the afternoon, followed by second day of DC that evening. A double header! With the final day an afternoon show on Sunday.

Not sure where Croft was going with his story..
He usually drives the Rudeen #26 for this race?
That car with their regular driver has been at Ohio Speedweek for the last week. Ran last night. I guess they could get back here but there are still 2 nights left for that Speedweek. (Maybe they knew something we didn't regarding the weather! )
The "Speedweek" that he referenced hasn't happened for quite some time but it did help bring a few 410's up.
I just hope we have a good race whenever it can happen.
Also, after the Brownfield next Friday and Saturday there is another Speedweek that heads South. See if that changes the tally any.

Report I got a few Cali cars coming up to run Speedweek beings it is going south.
Cali is racing Pombo/Sargent Classic at Ocean on 24th friday, and Stoga KWS on 25th Saturday this weekend...
July 4th race at Chico there are some of the drivers that used to come up for speedweek running for Silver Dollar track points. So those drivers will not be coming up.

I wish tracks would start getting more creative with their social media capabilities, I think it would be awesome to start seeing tracks move show dates around prior to rain outs, I'm not necessarily saying for weekly races but we all know this rain is likely to ruin what the schedule is supposed to be and we all know Saturday and Sunday are supposed to be nice out, with the click of a button Skagit could literally post that due to expected weather this is the revised format and its not like everyone wouldn't get the message, instead of making everyone wait around for two days, wasting more time, money and energy.

Disagree... the goal is to always get the show in on the date advertised. Mother Nature is a fickle woman. What if it ends up being OK tonight, but the show shifted to Sunday instead - basically guaranteeing a smaller crowd and smaller field as a lot of drivers have to travel home on Sunday - not to mention workers who may have had other plans. If it rains tonight, run a double on Saturday. Has been done before... will happen again I am sure. Sunday is a very last ditch effort if it cannot happen on Saturday.

Yup hope Steve takes the time to prep the track for that day show... hate to wipe out half the field by sending them out on a dried out track like the last time he tried to hurry up and run two shows in one day....

It goes to a 2 day show. With the weather changing the show to a two-day affair, the format of cumulative points has been scrapped and will now be two complete shows under the ASCS format to determine who will advance on into Saturday’s $15,000 to win, $1,000 to start feature event. No provisional will be allowed for this event. Top four from Friday night show are locked in to A main Saturday. As per ASCS format and rules for 2 day event

That was the way I read it, just wanted to ask the question because I recall a prior year where there was Saturday afternoon makeup - but with ASCS sanctioning, it didn't read that way ... thanks!

If Thursday and Friday are rained out, will saturday be a super show with two sets of heat races or just a one day show. One set of heats and thats all.
