Big Rigs Thrill Skagit Speedway

Alger, WA - The yearly appearance of the Rolling Thunder Big Rigs thrilled the large crowd at Skagit Speedway on a chilly summer Saturday night. Jay Steiger led every lap of their main event to claim the win. James Bundy and Vance Hibbard were the winners in the Cook Road Shell Sportsman Sprints and Outlaw Tuners.

Steiger was dominating all night in the big rigs, driving his Tonka themed truck to the win in the main, leading every lap of it in similar fashion to how he won his heat race. Tom Rayton made a late race charge to take second with Josh Sanaski taking third in his Optimus Prime themed rig. Scott Zahn was the other heat race winner and was moving in the main event before mechanical trouble slowed him down.

James Bundy collected his first win on the season in the Cook Road Shell Sportsman Sprints. Starting fourth, Bundy worked his way to second on the field quickly while giving chase to race leader Bill Rude. As the pair began weaving through traffic, Bundy found space underneath Rude in turn two on lap 15 to pick up the lead. The lone caution of the race came for Steve Parker just a few laps later, and on the ensuing restart, James would haul off and run away to pickup the victory. Rude collected a season best second with point leader Kelsey Carpenter finishing third. Rude, Ashleigh Johnson and Bailey Sucich won the heats.

Make it back to back wins for Vance Hibbard in the Outlaw Tuners. Vance used a late race restart to pass Brian Michelson on the inside of turn three on lap 16 to grab the lead and the win. For the second straight week, Michelson had to settle for runner up while TJ Campbell took third. Howard Vos and Michelson won the heats.
