Reutzel Races to Dirt Cup Thursday Win

6/22/17

Alger, WA - A large, sun drenched crowd watched Aaron Reutzel dice and slice through the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series field to win night one of the 46th Annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway.

Reutzel and Seth Bergman waged a vicious battle for the lead with the lead trading back and forth for multiple laps during the mid point of the race. Reutzel used a slidejob amongst heavy traffic to take the top spot for good on lap 15 and raced on to his first Skagit Speedway win and fourth with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series this season. Bergman settled for a close second with Trey Starks taking third. Heat winners were Bergman, Sam Hafertepe Jr, Blake Hahn, Starks, Skylar Gee and Reutzel. Qualifier wins went to Johnny Herrera, Colton Heath and Austen Wheatley,

The Northwest Focus Midget Series ran as the support division on Thursday night. Chance Crum overtook Nick Evans for the lead and appeared to have the race in hand as he took the white flag, but as he motored down the back straight to head toward the win, his car lost power, allowing Tristin Thomas to power past for the victory. Crum limped home to second with Evans finishing third. Heat winners were Garrett Thomas, Tristin Thomas, Chance Crum and Sawyer Lind.

Reutzel leads Dirt Cup event points heading into night two of the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup presented by The Skagit Casino, where gates will open at 5p and opening ceremonies are slated for 7p. The Northwest Focus Midget Series will again be the support division. Event points after night one can be found at http://www.ascsracing.com.
