|Hafertepe Dominant on Dirt Cup Night 2
Alger, WA - On night two of the 46th Annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup presented by The Skagit Casino & Resort, 2016 champion Sam Hafertepe Jr put on a dominating performance in winning the 25 lap Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series main event.
Hafertepe parlayed his pole position starting spot into an absolutely dominant A Main win, leading all 25 laps of the feature. Hafertepe ran his car all the way to the ragged edge of the cushion on a wide and racey track, carving through traffic with ease as he led a podium filled with Roger Crockett and Blake Hahn. Hafertepe Jr also won his heat race, as did Craig Dollansky, Bud Ashe, Crockett and Colton Heath. Qualifiers were won by Travis Rilat, Austen Wheatley and Wayne Johnson.
The night’s support class was once again the Northwest Focus Midget Series and for the second straight night, Burlington’s Tristin Thomas took home the night’s top prize. Thomas started seventh and took the lead from Hannah Lindquist on lap nine to secure the lead and eventual win. Nik Larson ran to second with Nick Evans finishing third. Heat winners were Chance Crum, Shane Smith, Chris Bullock and Thomas.
Roger Crockett and Aaron Reutzel will make up the front row for Saturday night’s 46th Annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup Main Event, with the winner taking home $15,000 in prize money. A full line up of the A Main and B Main events is available at http://www.ascsracing.com. The fun kicks off at 1pm with the Dirt Cup Fan Fest Party as well as the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Auction. Main gates open at 5pm with racing starting at 7pm for the finale of the 46th Annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup presented by The Skagit Casino Resort at Skagit Speedway.
