Seidelman Wins Open Wheel Weekend
By Ephrata Raceway Park

Ephrata Raceway Park played host to open wheel racers from across the Pacific Northwest and Canada Saturday night.  The on-track action was fast and exciting for the packed grandstands for Grant County Schools Night at the Races.
The Washington Midget Racing Association returned to ERP’s high-banked asphalt oval.  Tony Seidelman of Spanaway, Washington had a strong performance, winning the heat race and main event.  Skeeter Flake led the first three laps of the feature, but was overtaken by Troy Globe.  Globe led for three laps and surrendered the lead to Seidelman on lap number six.  Seidelman cruised through the caution-free 30-lap race to take the checkered flag.
A strong contingent of vintage sprint cars from the West Coast Vintage Racers gave race fans a nostalgic return to years past with sprint cars from the 1960’s and ‘70’s.  While the cars were considered vintage and many of the drivers in their 60’s and 70’s in age, the pace was fast and the competition was close.  Bernie Voytek of Scio, Oregon guided his sprinter, built by the legendary Grant King, to victories in the heat race and main event.  Lafayette, Oregon’s Dick Nelson led the first five circuits around the quarter-mile track.  On lap number six, Blaine Sneva of Spokane used the outside groove to take the lead.  After a caution on lap 8, Voytek powered by Sneva and went on to victory.
The Northwest Early Stocks paid a visit to ERP and gave the fans a lot of wheel-to-wheel racing action.  The Early Stocks took race fans back in time with cars using bodies from the 1930’s and ‘40’s.  Spokane’s Shawn Priest hustled his way to the front of the pack to take the lead on lap six after starting near the back of the pack.  Priest went on to lead the remainder of the 20-lap feature event to cross the finish line first.
The only cars with fenders to see action at ERP were the Kim Janke State Farm Agent V6 Super Cars and the Pioneer Muffler II Supers.  Ethan Smith of Moses Lake swept the Kim Janke Super Cars division; winning the dash, heat and main event.  Meanwhile, Don Voss duplicated the feat in the Pioneer Muffler II Supers.
The North American Big Rigs will make the trip from Canada to take on the ERP high-banks on Saturday, June 21st.  The Jerry’s Auto Supply Street Stocks and Pepsi Racing Winged 360 Sprint Cars will join the Big Rigs for a great night of close racing action set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
