Anyone remember or have information on this series? Info from the 1978 season for the series is being posted on the Third Turn site.

Here's another series I hadn't heard of until now, the IDC Gold Cup Trail: http://www.thethirdturn.com/wiki/1978_IDC_Gold_Cup_Trail_Central

Hi Everybody

This was the NASCAR Northwest Series for "Late Model Sportsman" cars that ran until its final year, 1984.

The new NASCAR Northwest Tour for "NASCAR Grand American" cars started in May 1985 (May 5 1985 at Evergreen Speedway)

SECOND REPLY Added here

Hi again

By 1978, there was no "International Drivers Challenge" for Open Wheel Cars,so the "IDC" referred to the Super Stock version.

In July 1978 there was the traditional SS IDC (July 14 to Jul 23) with 6 races (the seventh was rained out) at five tracks.  This 6 race "series" had its own set of standings

A separate "SS IDC Trail" noted here was a season-long series  of 9 races (ran May 27 to Oct 1), and did not include the July SS-IDC.  It had its own standings as noted (confirmed eg Dowdy won four events)

For the SS IDC 5 race series in July my records show the top five as

Eaton (Champ), followed byy Haslam, Tim Williamson, Bob Fox, and Roy Smith)

I dont recall seeing the "Gold Cup" designation, however

Bob Hunter

Through the 1960's and early 80's the Late Model Sportsmen was run a lot like the Winston Racing Series with track, state, and national championships. There were several late model national events at tracks like Charlotte and Darlington and in the early 1980's those tracks were split into the Busch Series with the Winston Racing Series being for the weekend warriors. In the northwest a series had developed with Evergreen and Yakima being the center point, and crowning NASCAR Late Model track champions. Other tracks were added to the mix to for a series which had it's own champion and included tracks such as East Wenatchee, Tri-Cities, Timberline, Spanaway, Stateline and more. Sometimes Portland was included and sometimes Portland ran for Oregon state points. Starting in 1974 Olympia Beer sponsored the series and it was called the Olympia Challenge Series. With the dawn of the Northwest Tour in 1985 the old Late Model Series was dead. I do have about half of the 1975 Oly Challenge yearbook on my Facebook page.
