No it's Virgil Hanson and Norm Davis from Albany/Lebanon Oregon area. I think this picture was taken at Portland Speedway in 1977 or 78. Norm is outside of drivers door and that would mean that Virgil is behind the wheel.
Really like all of these old pictures!!!!!
Thanks,
Jeff Hanson

77 looks like Joe Hickle in our 1/2 Howe-1/2 Fuge car. Don`t really recognize to color so well, but the 7s sure look like ours.

I do have the stats for those somewhere Timbo. I was the flagman for one of those 2 years and ran a car in the other. Might take me awhile as I have all that stuff boxed up but will try and get to it.

This is a little newer, but people still talk about it all the time. Walbridge's crash at Monroe in 1988 that knocked the engine and transmission out of the car.

I was jack man for Jimmy Bown and we were in a pit stop during that crash very close the impact. Parts of the concrete wall bounced off the side of the car and hood. Dick was checking something and the hood was up. A piece of concrete the size of a grapefruit hit the hood and tore it up just missing Dick. One of our crew guys was hit by debris.

Crew next to us was hit hard in the pits. Lots of equipment damage and some injuries. One of the worst crashes I have ever seen beside Waltrips wreck.

Walbridge even walk away and walked himself to the care center on his own. I bumped into Mark a couple of years back. Doing well and is a 747 cargo pilot. Fly's all over the world.

I was at that race also. What an explosion when he hit that cement barrier head on!!! When they put the tarp over the side of the car so the fans could not see what was going on we thought the worse. Also saw Mark the next year during the Motorcraft 500 Steam Wheeler Cruise that Mickey Beadle put on for a couple years in a row and Mark said coming out of Turn 4 the pin came out of the steering wheel. One of those 'Oh Shit' moments!!

If I remember correctly the car was brand new and that was the first time it ran. He came out of 4 and and he told us that day that he was turning the wheel to the right but the car was just going to left. When he applied the brake the car just drove into the jersey barriers head on. Drove through 2 and the 3rd I believe stopped him or what was left of it. We all thought he was a gonner for sure.

Saving grace was that he hit on the passenger side of the engine and not the driver's side. I am also grateful he didn't miss the wall to the left entirely, he would have crashed it us the other cars in pit lane.

I have some old pictures of my Dad. This one from Medford speedway guessing around 67 or 68. Yes it was bright green, a big no no back in the day, bad luck they said.

These are from Southwest Washington Fair Speedway (Centralia/Chehalis).

Excuse the lettering on the car. Dad let me help out, sign guy never showed to letter so he asked me to do it since I was just hanging out. I was 8 or 9 I believe.

Track appears to be a little dry here.

This was at Oly/Tenino opening day. New car for Dad. Mom also drove it in the Powder Puff races a few times. I wish I had it today.

I remember it was a very hot Sunday afternoon. This was also the race Mickey Beadle let California loooooooooow buck driver St. James Davis use his F-8 car motor to run (as St. James had already blown his engine and when he did come to Evergreen, he would smoke the 20 laps the car would run!!) and this is the best St. James ever ran!! One of the nicest characters you would ever meet. If you Google St. James Davis, you will find that he went some years back to an animal sanctuary for Chimps in California where he placed his Chimp (had it from a baby till it was too big to take care of) and one of the other Chimps in the compound attacked him and his wife and bit him horrible leaving him to this day in bad shape.

Yeah, nice guy. The good old days of NW racing. Was quite a shock when we heard he was attack by his monkey. Salvage attacked. Really messed him up.

I like the pictures of the cars at the track at Centralia/Chehalis Fair Grounds, it brings back a few memories from going to races there. To bad the track went down, I enjoyed going there, there was always a good car count.

I'm guessing #7 is Ron Eaton and #96 is Ray Elder from CA.

Here is one from 1972. Harry Jefferson at Evergreen. I love to point out to the younger generation the hand operated scoreboard being set up in the back of the green push truck.
