We are fortunate enough to have Jerry Day and Dick Wilskey here.  Are there any other guys from the 60s and 70s onboard here?  What a great Winter break from racing we could have if some of the other heroes from our past could post some memories.
Gerry McLees, Ross Fontes, Lloyd Armey, Joe Schott, Bob Vaughn...and countless others.  If you guys are out there, or if one of our regular posters or lurkers know them, please post some racing memories.
Back East they have numerous museums and associations devoted to short track racing.  Other than Golden Wheels, we don't have much to preserve our rich racing heritage, and that, to me, is really sad.
But hey, we have nwracechat.com to talk about the past...and that's a good start!

I agree 100%.....but my guess is that many of these "oldtimers" don't have access to this electronic media that has become so popular over the years. And I'd bet that many of them wouldn't be real comfortable with sitting behind a keyboard even if they had a personal computer. Anytime someone like Jerry or Dick post here I'm impressed. We have some tracks that have been in existence for quite a few years but don't have such a thing as a "Hall of Fame".....I would think that these places would be a good place to start. Dick had started one at Spanaway.....wonder were that went? The way of the track would be my guess. What is happening to the cars that Rudy Peterson had stored away? Now there is some history that has just been sitting. How come Evergreen after all of these years (50+) hasn't come up with something like this? Skagit? There really is a ton of motorsprorts history in the NW....it's too bad somebody hasn't got that ball rolling to preserve it all somewhere. If you ever get a chance to attend an old timers event at a local track......go. We have had the pleasure of sharing the weekend with them at Roseburg a couple of times and it's fun. The vintage sprint cars and midgets and now some older roadsters that come out is amazing. It's hard to imagine, with todays safety requirements and technology, that I used to watch full fields of these things sans cages etc. The drivers of that era certainly deserve to be referred to as our heroes.

I wonder if an idea should be pitched to Lemay of including a NorthWest motorsports history display in the new collection building..hmmmmmmm

Rick, I think something in that direction has been discussed already. I know it has been looked into by Golden Wheels and I think the Hydroplane Historical group.

Also, just before he left Evergreen, George Wade was talking about the posibility of getting a building there to put a Auto Racing Hall of Fame into.

I'm sure Brian Pratt could fill us in on the HoF up in Victoria and the Greater Vancouver Motorsports Pioneer Society.
