Beast Jett Car Burn Down, NASCAR Racing On Tap
Coos Bay, Oregon...There's another entertaining show planned for the fans this Saturday night at Coos Bay Speedway. In addition to the NASCAR Whelen All American Series lineup of Super Late Models, Sportsman Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Outlaws, Hornets and Humboldt Motorsports Side by Side Cars, the Beast Jett Car returns.
Jeff Atamain's Beast Jett Car will be coming in from California to put on a show. The Beast has a turbine jet engine that will put on a display that you are sure to feel even from the grandstands. The object in its path is a full size car that will be burnt down to the ground.
Brody Montgomery is off to a strong start in the Super Late Model division. Last week, he had his third win in four starts, moving him 26 points ahead of Chris Ray. After back-to-back third place finishes to start his season, Ray has finished out of the running in the past two races. He'll be hoping to turn things around as he sees Thor Kristensen closing in fast for second in the points. Other drivers to watch for this week include Richard Wallace, Kristy Grout and Wayne Butler. There is further incentive to get the drivers out to the track as there has been a $100 bounty placed on Brody Montgomery for any driver who can beat him while he is still on the track.
Butler has been doing double duty in recent weeks as he also competes in the Sportsman Late Model Class. After scratching from the Main Event to start his season, Butler finds himself trailing Dyllan Siewell by 46 points. Siewell is a two time winner so far this year. Despite winning three races, Butler only has a 16 point lead over the tied Tom Williams and Charlie Withers in the battle for second.
Current leader Ken Fox became the first two-time winner in Street Stock competition with his victory last week. Fox holds a commanding lead in the standings, leaving the drivers to battling for second. At the moment, one-time winner Troy Chamberlain leads David Smith by just four points. With Steve Dubisar, Jeff Thurman and 2016 champion Daniel Land in the field, the racing should be good.
Sam Talon is picking up where he left off last year as the Mini Outlaw champion. He has won four of the five Main Events and is also holding a big lead in the standings. One time winner John Henry is just six points ahead of Jason Kellum and 14 ahead of Carl Johnson in a closer battle for second. Other drivers to watch for include John Carpenter and Dan Daniels.
Rookie Kylea Krossman has been a model of consistency this year, and it has put her into the lead in the Hornet division. She has four Top 5 finishes. One-time winner April Warmack is only two points back in second, while rookie Tyler Tullos is 10 points out of the lead. Braden Fugate has won twice this year, while fifth place point runner Hannah Robison is a one-time winner. They should be back to try for another win along with David Pellam, Chris Parker and Tanner Johnson.
Saturday night will be a night of great entertainment for the fans. If the NASCAR action doesn't heat you up, watching the Jett Beast Car burn a car to the ground should do the trick. For further information, go to http://www.coosbayspeedway.us.
Montgomery, Fugate Win Coos Bay Speedway Races
Coos Bay, Oregon...May 26...Brody Montgomery won the 25 lap NASCAR Super Late Model Main Event Saturday night at Coos Bay Speedway. The event was sponsored by First Community Credit Union, and it included a Penny Scramble for the kids during intermission. Montgomery has been a force in Super Late Model competition this year with four wins. He started on the inside of the second row and wasted little time charging around Richard Wallace for the lead. Montgomery stretched his lead to about a straightaway with Wallace a season best second. Kristy Grout was a solid third ahead of Thor Kristensen and Wayne Butler. Montgomery made it a clean sweep by holding off Wallace to win both the five lap trophy Dash and ten lap heat race.
Trace Fugate picked up the win in the 25 lap Hornets Main Event. He's the fourth different winner in the division this year. Fugate started on the front row with Tyler Tullos and steadily pulled away for the win by nearly a straightaway. Tullos was a season best second ahead of rookie Kylea Krossman. A three car battle for fourth went to Andy Austin ahead of Chuck Peck and point leader April Warmack. Warmack also won the five lap Trophy Dash.
Sportsman Late Model point leader Dyllan Siewell won his second 20 lap Main Event of the season in a good battle with two time champion Wayne Butler, who settled for second ahead of Tom Williams and Charlie Withers. Butler won the ten lap heat race and Williams was the five lap Trophy Dash winner.
Point leader Ken Fox became the first two time winner of the 20 lap Street Stock Main Event. Troy Chamberlain gave it a good run before settling for a close second ahead of David Smith. Chamberlain won the five lap Trophy Dash, while Fox claimed the victory in the ten lap heat race.
Point leader Sam Talon continued to roll with his fourth 20 lap Mini Outlaw Main Event win of the season. The reigning champion, Talon has been an unstoppable force this season, and he won the Main Event by three-quarters of a lap ahead of heat race winner John Carpenter. Tom Sidewell settled for third ahead of Jason Kellum and Carl Johnson. Talon won the five lap Trophy Dash.
Griff Smith won the 12 lap Jr Stinger Main Event. This division puts drivers 11 to 14 years of age in Hornets to get them started in racing at the speedway. Smith was the only driver at the previous race, but this time he was joined by Sebastian Freedle and Alex Butler, who finished second and third, respectively. Smith won the six lap heat race and Freedle won the five lap Trophy Dash.
Next week offers a special treat for the fans with the Beast Jett Car Burndown. NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing will continue with Super Late Models, Sportsman Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Outlaws, Hornets and Humboldt Motorsports Side by Sides.
