ASCS Frontier & National meet for Rushmore Rumble at Black Hills
By Andrew Kunas, ASCS Frontier Region PR/Announcer

COEUR d'ALENE, Idaho - With the Grizzly Nationals in the books, the Brodix Frontier Region of the American Sprint Car Series is now looking forward to a second weekend of action with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by MAVTV Motorsports Network, this time at Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, South Dakota for the Rushmore Rumble.

Oklahoma's Wayne Johnson is coming off a sweep of the Grizzly Nationals at Gallatin Speedway in Montana, the two victories being his first ASCS National Tour triumphs of 2017. Those wins solidified him in fifth place in the points standings. Not having to worry about posing for pictures with a live grizzly bear like he did in Montana, Johnson looks to continue his run of momentum and find Rod End Supply Victory Lane again this Friday and Saturday in Rapid City.

On the Frontier Region end of things, a couple of more races has the points standings more focused after the usual late season start and some weather left the series only having run a couple of events before last weekend. A Top 10 finish against the National Tour big dogs on Friday and placing well amongst the Frontier Region drivers both nights overall resulted in Billings, Mont. driver David Hoiness moving into second place in the Brodix ASCS Frontier Region point standings, now only 18 tallies behind Sturgis, S. Dakota's D.J. Brink. Both drivers are pursuing first career ASCS championships.

Brink, who posted a pair of podium finishes in the Frontier Region's opening week of action in early June, looks to get back on track at his home track after posting finishes of 16th and 11th last weekend at Gallatin Speedway. On June 2nd at the season opener at Black Hills Speedway Brink finished second to feature winner Eric Lutz.

Cheyenne, Wyoming's Rich Martin, who has a Top 5 and a pair of Top 10 finishes to his name in regional action, currently sits third in the Brodix ASCS Frontier Region points standings. He finished sixth in June's event at Black Hills Speedway. Helena, Mont.'s Trever Kirkland, who posted a fifth place finish at Black Hills in June, sits fourth in the points - just two tallies behind Martin - followed by Shepherd, Mont.'s Damon McCune in fifth.

Last year's Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour races at Black Hills Speedway were swept by New Mexico's Johnny Herrera, who currently sits fourth in points with no victories this season but a solid eight Top 5 and 17 Top 10 finishes to his credit. Former ASCS National champion Aaron Reutzel of Texas posted podium finishes both nights in 2016.

Texas driver Sam Hafertepe Jr. leads the series with nine victories and won the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup last month at Skagit Speedway in Washington. The defending ASCS National champion, however, has struggled in recent weeks but is still leading the points by 50 tallies over Reutzel.

Modifieds and hobby stocks are the supporting classes for both nights of the Rushmore Rumble with the Brodix ASCS Frontier Region and Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by MAVTV Motorsports Network, this Friday and Saturday at Black Hills Speedway.
