Forler is Atomic, takes ASCS Frontier checkers in Idaho
Andrew Kunas

ATOMIC CITY, Idaho - New track? No problem for Logan Forler, who scored his first win with the Brodix ASCS Frontier Region in the tour's debut at Atomic Motor Raceway, finding Rod End Supply Victory Lane in the opening night of the Rumble in the Desert.

Forler, who once lived in Orting, Washington but now lives in Boise, Idaho, the first time visit to the 1/3-mile dirt oval is now his shortest trip to a dirt track event and he made that first visit a successful one. Taking advantage of the top of the track coming in, Forler bolted to the lead from the outside front row and led all 25 laps aboard the Forler Trucking No. 2L Parker-powered Maxim.

Early on Forler, a former Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour main event winner, took advantage of timely caution flags that cleared the track in front of him just as he was approaching track. However, a long green flag run to close the race saw Forler encounter heavy tracffic, allowing Billings, Montana driver David Hoiness to close in and make a race out of it.

Hoiness, the ASCS Frontier Region points leader who started on the pole, showed a nose a couple of times, but Forler was successfully able to manage his way around the slower cars enough over the last couple of laps and crossed the finish line with Hoiness right on his back bumper.

Though disappointed with not winning his first main event of the year, the best finish of the season for Hoiness padded his lead atop the standings aboard the Hoiness Racing No. 27DD Wesmar-powered Maxim.

Rich Martin of Cheyenne, Wyoming ran fourth most of the race before passing Jeremy McCune for third place and finished there aboard the Martin & Clark No. 24m Triple X. It was also more than good enough to move Martin into second place in the ASCS Frontier Region point standings, 74 tallies behind Hoiness.

McCune, getting back in the swing a things after a recovery from severe burns suffered in May, still finished a solid fourth in his own No. 0J Kasskickin-powerd J&J despite dealing with a severe vibration that began just as he was trying to pass Hoiness for second.

Ned Powers, who came all the way from Belle Fourche, South Dakota, moved up from the 11th starting position to finish fifth in his own No. 0 Kasskicken-powered Maxim.

McCune won the evening's first race from the fourth position and earned the top passing points score of the evening. In the redraw for the first eight starting positions, McCune drew the outside of the second row for the feature. Hoiness and Anthony Farnsworth won the other two heat races.

The second night of the inaugural Rumble in the Desert for the Brodix ASCS Frontier Region's debut at Atomic Motor Raceway is Saturday night with racing scheduled for 7:00.
