| Buddy Kofoid geared up for a Chico/ Placerville double header this weekend
By Gary Thomas
Placerville, CA – May 10, 2017…With Mother’s Day weekend on deck Penngrove, CA’s Buddy Kofoid and Dan Simpson Racing are set for two more nights of action, beginning with a return visit to Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday, followed by the only King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Racing Series event of the season at Placerville Speedway on Saturday.
Kofoid and the 4s team are coming off a successful two nights of competition at the Silver Dollar Speedway last weekend. The 15-year-old opened the two-step by scoring a fourth place finish during Friday’s Bill Brownell Memorial, before hanging in for a seventh place effort at Saturday’s Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial.
This Friday’s Winged 410 Sprint Car point race at Silver Dollar Speedway will mark Kofoid’s eighth start at the famed quarter-mile this season.
Saturday’s outing at the Placerville Speedway will then be just his second ever King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Racing Series start on the red clay. Last season he earned Rookie of the Year honors at the track and finished third in the weekly Thompson’s Auto Group Winged 360 Sprint Car standings.
“We’re definitely excited to get a couple more nights of racing in this weekend at Chico and Placerville,” Kofoid commented. “I felt like we had a solid go of it at Silver Dollar Speedway during the Bradway and continue to learn things the more I compete there. Last season we also ran full-time at Placerville Speedway so that definitely gives me a lot of confidence going there with the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Racing Series. Hopefully we can put together two solid nights of racing and come away with a pair of good finishes.”
Going into Saturday Kofoid ranks sixth in the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Racing Series standings, but is just 14-points behind leader Bud Kaeding. Last year he brought home a seventh place finish in his only previous series attempt at the Placerville bullring.
