Three Straight for Ryan at Deming Speedway

5/24/13

Deming, WA – Liam Ryan is on quite the tear at Deming Speedway, having now won three straight features in the 600 Open division after a 25 lap wire-to-wire win on Friday night. Other feature winners on the evening were Jared Gundersen, Reece Wickard and Cain Cress. Racing action was sponsored by Jim’s Automotive Experts, Mt Baker Roofing, Mt Baker Moto-Sports, Phillips 66 and Shots 2 Go Espresso.

Ryan’s dominance over the past three weeks in the 600 Open class is scary given the fact that the Langley, BC native claims his engine still isn’t running right. “We finished the race on three cylinders, so if we could ever get the engine running right, this thing will be perfect” said Liam in victory lane after leading every lap from the outside pole. Kyle Mitchell came home second with Jared Peterson running third. Heat wins went to Chase Schmidt, Chance Crum, Ryan and Brayden Planko were heat winners. Spud Allen set quick time.

The Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 division was dominated by Jared Gundersen on Friday night. Gundersen set quick time and led every lap of the main event from the pole after rolling a zero for the invert without challenge. Steven Hendrickson took second and Eric Drake was third. Brock Lemley and Hendrickson were the heat race winners.

In one of the more epic 600 Restricted main events in the history of the class, Reece Wickard picked up his first feature win. Wickard, Hannah Lindquist, Ashley Thompson, Tristin Thomas and Isaac Abenroth ran nose to tail over approximately the final 10 laps with lapped cars intermingled throughout. Wickard led the whole way, with intense pressure from Thompson at first and Lindquist later, but never wavered and made all the best decisions in traffic to end up victorious. Positions two through five changed hands multiple times with Lindquist and Thompson settling in for second and third. Heat wins went to Kaitlyn Hammer, Thompson, Spencer Constance and Darius Walker-Perkins. Dylan Resch was fast time.

Round five of the Cain Cress / Lynden Lebedinski prize fight in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprints went to Cress, who led laps three through fifteen with Lebedinski on his tail to take his third win of the season. The streak of Cress and Lebedinski winning every event continued, as both drivers won the heats as well. Cress set quick time. Mitchell Helsel had a career best third place finish in the A Main.
