Clay Cup Night 2 Wins to Crum, Ryan, Drake and Helsel

Clay Cup 2017’s Saturday Night finale’ is set to be an amazing night of racing if the first two preliminary nights are any indication of what’s to come. On the second night of racing for Clay Cup at Deming Speedway, race winners were Chance Crum, Liam Ryan, Dakota Drake and Mitchell Helsel.

Late race heroics paid big dividends for Chance Crum in the Speedmart Hoosier 600 Open class. Crum sat patiently in second place for the bulk of the contest, following race leader Kaitlyn Hammer around the inside groove as the pair approached lapped traffic. Slower cars appeared to be sequencing out nicely for Hammer, allowing her to continue using the bottom of the speedway to maintain her lead. With five laps to go, Crum changed strategy, going to the high side of the track to try and make a move on Kaitlyn. Banging his right rear off the wall in turn two, Crum found forward drive up high, taking the top spot from Hammer on lap 23 and racing to the win. Hammer settled for second with TJ Smith taking third for the second straight night.

Liam Ryan has won both prelim nights of the 2017 Clay Cup Nationals in the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 class. On Friday night, Ryan slid to the inside of Chad Reid in corner number three on lap 11 to take the top spot, then meticulously hit his spots in a dominating effort as he scored the win. Steven Hendrickson made a big charge up the field to take second away from Reid with two laps left in the main to earn runner up honors. Reid finished a career best third.

High drama infused the Mytrafficman.NET 600 Restricted A Main event over the final few circuits. Dakota Drake had led since lap 14 when she’d driven past Jake Truman to take the top spot. Drake had entered slower traffic with just a few laps left, allowing Chase Randall to close dramatically. Randall was right on Drake’s rear bumper entering turn one on the final and tried to sneak underneath Dakota, but did not have enough room to complete the move, spinning to stop and setting up a green white checkered restart. Drake was perfect on the restart, streaking away from Parker Hadlock and Colin Mackey to score her fourth Deming Speedway win of the season.

Mitchell Helsel put up a big point scoring night in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprint division, running from deep in the field to pass Peyton Drake on the final lap of the 20 lap main event to score his third feature win of the season. Drake also came up the field nicely to score a second place finish with Colton Key running third.

There are ways of expressing your disagreement with another person's opinion that don't come off as adversarial. As long as those methods are employed, differing opinions are healthy.
