Race Night Two in the Books at Deming Speedway

4/27/18

Everson, WA - Deming Speedway beat back mother nature to get their second night of racing in on the year. Race winners on the evening were Tanner Holm, Steven Hendrickson, Carson Borden and Jayden Whitney. Racing was sponsored by Les Schwab and Napa of Bellingham.

Tanner Holm became the first repeat winner of 2018 at Deming Speedway following a wire to wire win in the Speedmart Hoosier 600 Open division. Holm led every lap from his pole position, holding off Jared Peterson over multiple restarts to pick up the win. Peterson settled for second with Kyle Johnson taking third. Peterson was the fast qualifier. Cody Hogarth, Kyle Johnson, Jesse Schlotfeldt and Jon Farrell were heat winners.

The Shot 2 Go Espresso 1200 division went non wing on Friday night. Early race leader Seth Hespe looked to have control of the race as the caution flag flew on lap 15, but one of the cars involved in the wreck fired his car back up and as he was blending back into the field collided with Hespe, resulting in too much damage to Seth’s car to continue on. The lead went to Zach Keefe who held the top spot for two laps before his engine let go, handing the lead and eventual win to Steven Hendrickson, who completed a clean sweep as he was fast time and won his heat. Clennon Holloway was second with Frosty Metcalfe third. The other heat winner was Jacob Buckenmeyer.

Carson Borden collected his first Deming Speedway win in the Mytrafficman.NET 600 Restricted division in dramatic fashion. In a caution shortened race that featured many restarts, Borden was hounded all race long by Dakota Drake, actually losing the lead to her on the second to last restart of the race only to see a yellow fly before the lap was complete. On the final restart, Drake’s car inexplicably did not come to speed, costing her a number of spots and sealing the deal for Borden. Levi Klatt ran second with Sean Cochran taking third. Lane Taylor was the fast qualifier with heat wins going to Colin Mackey, Klatt, Cochran and Macie Logsdon.

In the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprints, Jayden Whitney survived multiple cautions to win his first feature of 2018. Dustin Ramsey led after the first two starts, but the race went yellow on both occasions. On the third try, Whitney streaked out to a lead that would never be eclipsed as he rolled to victory, followed by Peyton Drake and Austin Held. Whitney was fast time with heat wins going to Kane Van Sickle, Keira Zylstra and Held.
