Thrilling 1200 Finish the Story at Deming Speedway 5/18/18 Everson, WA - High drama unfolded in the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 main event, on Shots 2 Go Espresso and Service Pro night at Deming Speedway. The crowd was thrilled by the late race drama, watching Frosty Metcalfe and Steven Hendrickson duke it out for the win. Feature wins in the other divisions were collected by Kyle Mitchell, Colin Mackey and Austin Held. The story of the night was in the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 division. It’s been a number of years since speedway veteran Frosty Metcalfe visited victory lane, and Friday night looked like it would be the night he broke his drought and became one of, if the not the, oldest feature winner of the past decade. Luck was not on Frosty’s side however, as slower traffic played a factor in the final lap. As Frosty and second place Steven Hendrickson approached the first lapped car of the contest on the white flag lap, the car move to the high groove, essentially setting a basketball style pick on Metcalfe who had been top committed all race long. This opened up the door for Hendrickson who dove low, taking a lead only 200 ft from the checkered flag, and snatching the win away from Metcalfe. The victory was Steven’s second of 2018. Metcalfe took second with a smile and Seth Hespe ran third. Clennon Holloway and Alex Lewis won the heats. Dominant - that was the word to best describe Kyle Mitchell in the main event for the Speedmart Hoosier 600 Open division. Racing wingless on the night, Mitchell took over the lead on lap four and was only slowed by yellow flags, as he enjoyed a straightaway lead for the bulk of the main event, never seeing a challenge en route to his first win of the year. Kaden Holm raced to second with Evan Margeson taking third. The heat races went to Jared Peterson, Devon Borden and Chance Crum. Colin Mackey rebounded from multiple weeks of flips to score his first win of the year in the Mytrafficman.NET 600 Restricted. Mackey had Dakota Drake right on his tail for most of the race until she fell out due to mechanical gremlins with six laps left. Seth Anderlini would take second and Parker Hadlock ran third. Heat wins went to Anderlini, Jesson Jacobson, Levi Klatt and Audrey Balmert. Austin Held was a first time winner in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprints. He led all 20 laps with Carson Guffie literally right on his rear nerf bar for most of the contest. Guffie would settle for runner up and Brooklyn Constance took her season best finish of third place. Guffie, Peyton Drake and Drake Hadlock won the heat races.
