ACTION OCCURING ALL OVER THE DOWN UNDER DIVISION; KERRY MADSEN SCORES A PAIR OF WINS
Cottage Grove, Oregon- It was a weekend of action in all three regions of the Down Under Division in the Sprint Car Rankings. Six individual races were held with three taking place in the Australia West Region, two in the Kiwi Region, and only one race in the Australia East Region. In the overall division not much movement occurred with the exception of Kerry Madsen from tenth to sixth after his two wins this last past week. 1. Still at the top of the charts in the “Land of the Down Under” is Robbie Farr. The Sydney native finished in the top five twice in last week’s action including a win at the Australian Open Sprint Car Nationals at Virginia, South Australia’s Speedway City on the 30th of January. The other top five occurred at the World Series of Sprint Cars (WSS) event, held on the 3rd of February at the Kalgoorlie International Speedway in Western Australia, in which he finished fifth. He was able to make the margin a hair bit larger but only slightly. 2. Brooke Tatnell didn’t have the greatest of weeks only posting a fourth place finish at WSS event at Kalgoorlie. Only earning a couple of points the San Souci driver now is twenty two points behind Farr. With only two races to go with the WSS series and the American action getting started only a little time is left for him to challenge Farr. According to Tatnell’s website he will remain in Western Australia for the entirety of February before he heads east across the Pacific. 3. In third is Jason Johnson the only driver not to post a top five finish in last week’s action. With many American drivers leaving for their homeland Johnson is one of the few remaining. With the final races for the WSS this weekend according to his car owner’s website (HM Racing) this will be his last weekend in Australia. 4. In the fourth place position Max Dumesny of Nelson continues to hold his position. Dumesny posted only a fourth place finish at the Australian Open Sprint Car Nationals in South Australia but is not out of the clear. In the midst of a great battle with James McFadden the interval has went from four points to now two. 5. Making a great spectacle for a battle within the top five is James McFadden of Western Australia. Ironically McFadden was able to finish one position ahead of Max Dumesny at the same race in South Australia to earn the two points to cut the margin to two points. Between fourth and tenth place in the rankings it is only twenty-one points. Down Under Division
