The Return of the Kings
Monroe, WA- The King of the Wing National Sprint Car Series returns to Evergreen Speedway Saturday July 23rd presented by The Walthew Law Firm and Interstate Batteries. Along with the winged sprint cars, taking to the tracks will be the Outlaw Figure 8’s, Buzz Inn Steakhouse Stinger 8’s, Interstate Battery Hornets and the Vintage Modified’s.
When racing legend Davey Hamilton founded the King of the Wing (KOW) Series back in 2014, the intent was to bring asphalt sprint car racing to a higher level. Working with existing associations all across the country, KOW brought a new buzz to the sport.
Evergreen Speedway has scheduled the Rory Price Memorial (RPM) event for years to honor a man who meant so much to the asphalt and dirt open-wheel racers and fans. Last season with the prospect of bringing in Hamiltons KOW and combining it with the RPM fans of asphalt spring car racing really had something to look forward to.
Last season, the event was scheduled as a 2-day event, with Saturday night featuring the sprint cars and Speedway Chevrolet Super Late Models on the 3/8’s oval, then returning Sunday afternoon and racing on the 5/8’s big track. While a cool idea in theory, officials determined that this season RPM would be a Saturday only event on the 3/8’s.
Tom Glithero is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Longacre Racing Products and for the past 8 seasons has been the co-host of the Northsound Racing radio show. He also operated Evergreen Speedway back in the 80’s, along with Yakima Speedway and several others. Suffice to say that he knows of what he speaks! “Personally, the Saturday show last season was the best race I’ve ever witnessed in my life” Glithero commented. “To watch Matt Hein win that race was epic!”
“To be able to do what we did in that race (along with the nice check!) that we got for winning it was the highlight of the year for me and my team” Hein said after the race. “We won the NSRA championship last year as well along with another win in the Rory Price Memorial, so we as a team are really looking forward to coming back up and defending on the 3/8’s”
The KOW kick off their 2016 “Northwest Swing” on July 21st at Meridian Speedway in Idaho, then travel west to Evergreen Speedway for the Rory Price Memorial on the 23rd, then load up and head east for a Sunday afternoon show at the Wenatchee Valley Super Oval. The King of the Wing National Sprintcar Series, runs a 12 race series over 4 weekends in 4 regions of the United States. (South East, Mid-West, North West and West Coast). The Western Sprintcar Series will run a 12 - 14 race season in the western states.
Gates open at 4:00 pm with racing starting at 6:00. Adult ticket prices are $25.00 and fans ages 6-15 are only $10.00. As always, members of the military are free with military ID. Your favorite seat can be lined up online at http://www.evergreenspeedway.com
