|Schmidt Wins Again at Deming Speedway
With the sun shining and a large crowd ready for great racing, Deming Speedway and its racers rose to the task of putting on a great show on Les Schwab Night at the track. Chase Schmidt posted his second straight win, while Steven Hendrickson, Brandee Wood and Cain Cress each visited victory lane for the first time.
Chase Schmidt is two for two on the young season in the 600 Open division. Schmidt took the lead from Jacob Brown on lap 10 and held off a hard charging Liam Ryan and Brock Lemley to score his second win in as many weeks. Lance Sargent, Spud Allen, Lemley and Ryan won the heat races. Kyle Mitchell set quick time.
Steven Hendrickson has been bad fast early in 2013 and the results showed it on Friday night. Hendrickson dominated the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 Feature, leading all 25 laps to take his first feature win of the year. Hendrickson was followed to the line by Jared Gundersen and Eric Drake. Hendrickson and Gundersen won the heat races. Drake set fast time.
Fortune favored Brandee Wood on Friday night as she piloted her car to a win in the 600 Restricted division. Wood led all 17 laps of the caution shortened main. Wood was scheduled to start third but inherited the pole after the original front row was unable to start the race side by side. Wood took full advantage of the situation, leading almost every lap unchallenged to take the win followed by Darius Walker-Perkins in a career best second place performance and Dylan Resch in third. Reese Wickard was the fast qualifier. Heat wins went to Kaitlyn Hammer, Spencer Constance, Walker-Perkins and Isaac Abenroth.
Cain Cress has been all kinds of impressive early in his Deming Speedway career. After setting quick time, winning his heat and running second in last week’s action, Cress picked up the win on Friday night, taking the lead from Lynden Lebedinski on the fourth lap. Similar to last week, Cress also set quick time and won his heat. Lebedinski ran second and won his heat. Haley Constance ran a career best third.
