I believe the IDC was run 1970-1976. I know that Gordy Stewart won the overall championship in 1971 and John Tharp Sr won it in 1976. Can anybody fill in the gaps as far as won won the overall and what years? And if possible, does anyone have a list of who won which races?

Hi

Some of you may know I've been working on a "NW Open Wheel History" for some time and I think it currently runs over 200 (!!) pages, and is up to date thru 2016.

I have just completed (as well as we could) the ca 50 page history of CAMRA, the Canadian American Modified Racing Association (ran 1963 to 1984) as the final part of the "NW Open Wheel History". I was greatly assisted by racing historians Brian Pratt of Burnaby BC, and Stan Fuller of Idaho. We were able to distribute a few copies of the CAMRA History manuscript at the CAMRA Reunion event at Victoria's Western Speedway a week ago.

We are considering some sort of "on demand publishing" to produce a hardcopy version of these histories but we are aways away from that. At this point, I am restricting distribution as we continue to massage the manuscript.

Regarding the IDC, I have a 5 page stand alone document in Microsoft Word on the history of the IDC and will try to paste the list of IDC Champions that is in an MS Word "table", below.

International Drivers Challenge (IDC) CHAMPIONS
Year IDC Champions Events Total / Dirt
1970 Gary Ponzini 5/2
1971 Gordon Stewart 5/2
1972 Bill Deschamps 7/1
1973 Gerry Mc:Lees 6/1
1974 Roy Smith 6/2
1975 Roy Smith 5/1
1976 John Tharp 5/2

It looks pretty good!

IDC was easy, had 39 events, whereas CAMRA had nearly 500

Best Wishes

Thanks much, that is awesome. Is there any chance someone has a list of the IDC race winners each year? Thanks again!

Jeff I have all of it.
from day 1. Qualifying, dashes heats and mains plus overall champions. Mom documented and saved all of it. She saved everything including the lap sheets from scoring.

Hi, back between 1984 and 2000 I took color photos of the NW supermodifieds. I have approximately 1000 photos of cars at tracks from Eureka to Monroe and tracks in between. I have the photos on CD discs. If you could use them for your book I would gladly send them to you. Please contact me and we could work out the details.
Thank you very much,
