Northwest Focus Midget Series Has Doubleheader This Weekend; Deming Friday And Skagit Saturday
By Ben Deatherage
The Northwest Focus Midget Series will be busy this weekend with two races at two different Washington state facilities. Friday, July 28th, will see the tour head to Deming Speedway before taking a trip south to Alger’s Skagit Speedway, on Saturday the 29th. The Skagit date will be the fifth round of the 2017 Summer Challenge.

“After an awesome trip to Sunset Speedway we are now excited for the upcoming two days of racing at Deming and Skagit,” commented series co-owner, Carla Stewart, “Saturday we will be the support division to the Bob's Burgers & Brew 360 Nationals and it will be our fifth of ten races in our series points championship for 2017.”

Thirty cars are expected to make it out this weekend. Avon, Indiana’s Ross Rankine will be back out in the Fred Brownfield #92 tribute car. Evan Margeson will hop in the #69 entry on Saturday while Kenzi Thompson will make a return after being a year away and will be in the #13 machine for both nights.

Tristin Thomas has won the first two Summer Challenge events while Nate Vaughn picked up the huge win at Deming and last week Ross Rankine would best the field at Sunset Speedway Park. Thomas leads the overall win list this season, with five trips to victory lane, over Nick Evans’ three and two-time victors are Chance Crum and Ross Rankine. Colton Heath and Nate Vaughn are drivers that have won once.

There have been sixteen Northwest Focus Midget Series races at Deming Speedway producing seven different winners. Michael Vollbrecht leads the win list with five, all of which were achieved in 2015, while Nick Evans has three. Eric Turner is the only other multi-feature winner, with two, and single race victors include Chance Crum, Jacob Brown, Jared Peterson, Tristin Thomas, Colton Heath, and Nate Vaughn.

Skagit Speedway has hosted fourteen Northwest Focus Midget Series events with five different drivers managing to obtain victories. Tristin Thomas has the most wins, with an impressive seven, while Garrett Thomas has parked it in the winner’s circle three times. Defending track champion Nick Evans has two triumphs at Skagit while the only single race winners are Kelsey Carpenter and Ross Rankine.
