|Hot Streak Continues for Peterson
Everson, WA - Chaos reigned in the final race of the night at Deming Speedway, where Jared Peterson won his third main event of the past two weekends. Racing was sponsored by Les Schwab Tires and Highline Performance. Other division winners included Jared Gundersen, Colin Mackey and Levi Hillier.
Racing was great in the Speedmart Hoosier 600 Open class despite the race being burdened with caution flags. 11 different incidents drew stoppages during the 25 lap feature. Kyle Mitchell and Jared Peterson waged war during the green flag runs, with Mitchell getting out to the early lead before exchanging slide jobs with Peterson around lap five that handed the top spot to Peterson. Mitchell took the lead back on lap 13 off the low groove as Peterson looked for more moisture up high, eventually finding it and racing back to challenge Mitchell. Jared retook the lead for good on lap 18 as he drove under Mitchell coming out of two and slid him in three. With the high side working well, Peterson railed the cushion for the final laps as he grabbed his third win over the past two weeks. Mitchell’s engine expired on lap 2 ending his night. Chance Crum and Tanner Holm were running second and third coming to the checkered flag before Crum inexplicably slowed, catching Holm behind him and letting Spud Allen and Ryley Mayer race past them for the final two podium spots. Ashleigh Johnson advanced nine places to grab hard charger.
The finish of the night was in the Shots 2 Go Espresso 1200 division. Running without wings on Friday night, Jared Gundersen jetted out to the early lead with Alex Lewis and Steven Hendrickson in tow. Lewis stayed hot on Jared’s heels until roughly lap 15 when Hendrickson got by him and began working for the top spot. Using the low side of the speedway, Hendrickson made what looked like the race winning pass on lap 23, but Gundersen wasn’t done. Pushing his car a little harder than before, Jared ran his best laps of the race on lap 24 and 25, finding more speed in the high groove and combined with Steven slightly missing his mark in the lower groove in turns one and two, allowed Gundersen to drive back around the outside to lead the final 50 feet and score the victory. Hendrickson would have to settle for runner up while Zach Keefe took hard charger honors with a sixth to third effort.
Traffic played a big factor in the outcome of the Mytrafficman.NET 600 restricted division. Dakota Drake led the first ten laps but as slower traffic approached, Colin Mackey took the point away from her then used the slower traffic to keep Dakota pinned behind him as he got away. A lap 13 yellow gave the lead pair a respite from slower traffic, but Mackey was slightly better in clean air as he raced to his second win in as many weeks. Drake settled for second with Tyson Lemley taking third. Parker Hadlock earned hard charger honors.
In the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprints, Levi Hillier raced to his third career Deming Speedway win. A lap one fracas took out a number of cars and drastically altered the front of the field. Hillier was the beneficiary, taking over the pole and leading every lap on his way to victory lane. Dominic Carter was second with Mitchell Helsel taking home third. Jaden Whitney was hard charger.
