Fan Appreciation Night At Siskiyou Speedway This Saturday Night

Yreka, CA...Racing returns to Siskiyou Motor Speedway this weekend.  Everything was set to happen last weekend.  Unfortunately, the heavy smoke in the air forced track officials to cancel the show due to concern over the air quality.  However, this Saturday night will be Fan Appreciation Night.  There will be a driver and fan meet and greet and kid's ride alongs.  Ticket prices are a fan friendly $5.  The IMCA Sport Modifieds, McDonald's Mini Stocks and IMCA Modifieds are all on the schedule. \

For the IMCA Sport Modified division, there is just this race and the Rod Restad Memorial on September 16th remaining on the point calendar.  The September 9th race will not be for points as IMCA rules state that you can not have a point event when they have their big nationals event in Boone, Iowa.  What this means for point leader D.J. Bottoms is that he can he either clinch the championship this week or put himself in a position to clinch the championship by taking a green flag in the finale.  A lead of over 40 points after Saturday would make Bottoms the champion.  He leads Colton Cheffey by 50 points at the moment.

In May, Cheffey hit a rough stretch of races and missed the Bo Hittson race altogether.  Despite winning the last four races, he's only been able to cut the lead to 50 points.  This is because Bottoms has been very consistent this year and entered the county fair break with back to back Top 3 finishes.  Young D.J. had a good month of June with his two Main Event wins enabling him to take over the point lead.  You might think that he would be content to ride it out and clinch his championship, but he's looking for his third win of the season and wants to end the Cheffey winning streak.

Justin Foux won a pair of early season Main Events and was the point leader before selling his car.  The steady Randy Wright has just passed him by two points to take over third in the standings.  Wright has finished second once this year, but he would like to grab a win before the season is up.  The other battle in the standings is for fifth between Ryder Boswell and Jack Waldon III.  After his second place finish in the most recent race, Boswell holds a five point advantage over Waldon.  Both driers have looked good this season, and either one of them could grab a win this week.

While other McDonald's Mini Stock drivers were having some rough moments early in the season, reigning champion Marilyn Yawnick was staying consistent with six Top 3 finishes in the first nine races.  This put her in the point lead even though young Ethan Killingsworth scored all four of his wins during that time.  Ethan had a bout with the wall on July 4th that ended his race on the opening lap, but he has finished second twice since then.  Yawnick beat him to win the most recent race, and now her lead is 37 points.  Knowing how fast Killingsworth is, Yawnick will need to finish the season strong to protect her point lead.

Mike Whitaker is also having a good season in third with four Top 3 finishes, including one win.  The 2014 track champion has a comfortable lead over Terry Kendrick and will finish third in the standings if he has no major setbacks.  At 39 points behind Kendrick, Mike Frost has a shot at fourth in the standings.  The drivers are bracing for the possible return of 2015 champion David Steele this week.  Steele has three wins here and four in Medford.  After some major motor issues, he appears to have things figured out.

It's one thing to go to the races and cheer on your favorite driver.  However, fans will get a chance to meet them Saturday night.  The kids will even have an opportunity to ride along with the drivers.  The price is right at $5.00 to come watch the show.  For further information, go to http://www.siskiyoumotorspeedway.com.
