Wilson, Hagio, Kile Win At Ocean Speedway

Watsonville, CA...May 18...Alex Wilson scored the victory in the 25 lap IMCA Modified Main Event Friday night at Ocean Speedway. Wilson is the 2015 IMCA State champion. After grabbing the lead from pole sitter Raymond Keldsen Jr., Wilson outran Cody Burke to get the win. Past champion Brian Cass made his first appearance of the season and made a move around Keldsen to grab third. Keldsen settled for fourth, followed by Todd Hermosillo, Steven Streeter, Jeff McCoun and Robert Marsh. Austin Burke and Robert Diaz were Main Event scratches. Marsh blew his motor while holding off Alex Wilson to win their heat. Hermosillo won the other heat in front of Keldsen. Brian Cass set the fastest lap of 14.785, beating the 15.146 of Cody Burke.

The IMCA Sport Modifieds brought a 16 car field, and two-time track champion Matthew Hagio won the 20 lap Main Event. Hagio started in the second row behind outside front row starter Adrian Frost. There was a good battle up front before Hagio collected the win ahead of 2015 champion Jim DiGiovanni. Frost settled for third ahead of Justin McPherson, Anthony Giuliani, Paul Espino, Charlie Hunter, Markus Frazier, Austin Williams and Mike Kofovec Jr. Incoming point leader Jack Aguiar ended up 13th, but he did win his eight lap heat race in front of Giuliani. John Ferro won the other heat, followed by DiGiovanni. Giuliani set the fastest lap of a 15.848, beating a 15.887 of Hagio.

Past champion Matt Kile prevailed in the 20 lap American Stock feature. Kile won a battle of the champions as reigning track titleist Rob Gallaher settled for second. Terry Campion finished third. Joe Willoughby was back after motor issues cost him a win at the previous race, and he outran previous winner JC Elrod to finish fourth as DJ Keldsen, Mike Calhoun, Tony Oliveira, Terry Traub and Mark Reist made up the remainder of the Top 10. Willoughby won his eight lap heat race in front of Kile, while Gallaher outran Campion to win the other heat.

Jessie Mueller continued to roll in the Police N Pursuit class as he won another 15 lap Main Event. Mueller represents the California Highway Patrol, while Tony Parker of the Task Force Racers Team finished second. John Hohmann was third ahead of Steven Fernandes, Roy Iler, Jared Johnson, Brett Myers, Jackie Yeung, Chris Murphy and Mike Mount. Fernandes won the first of two heat races in front of Hohmann, while Parker won the other six lap event, followed by Mueller.

IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sport Modifieds headline the next event on June 1st. Also on the card will be the American Stocks, Four Bangers and South Bay Dwarf Cars. For further information, go to http://www.racepmg.com.
