|Fisher Fast at Mid Season Championships
Alger, WA - On a night filled with speed, Eric Fisher was the fastest on Saturday night at Skagit Speedway as Les Schwab Tires presented Mid Season Championship night. Fisher would score the Budweiser 360 Sprint main event win and was joined in victory lane by Kelsey Carpenter, Lawrence O’Connor and Jon Gunderson.
Fisher was the winner of the Budweiser 360 Sprint Feature, but he had to work hard for his second win of the year. Colton Heath was right on his rear nerf for the first 19 laps before mechanical woes knocked him out of the running. Cam Smith took up the mantle and ran Fisher hard over the final five laps, nearly taking the lead coming to the white flag before having to jump on the brakes as Fisher moved up race track to secure the win. Smith would lose second to Jared Peterson in the exchange, having to settle for third. Fisher won the scramble. Brock Lemley was the fastest qualifier of the non lock in cars.
It took a while, but Kelsey Carpenter found victory lane for the first time in 2018 at Skagit Speedway in the Sportsman Sprints. Trevor Cook held the initial led, but it was Carpenter running him down at lap 11 and passing him on the inside of turn two to grab the point. Kelsey would deftly navigate slower traffic to collect the win ahead of Cook and Jake Helsel. Cook won the scramble. Eric Turner was quick time.
Lawrence O’Connor came from last to first in the Modified main. Patiently working his way up the field, O’Connor found himself in second around the halfway point of the main and with the benefit of being the hunter instead of the prey, found a race line that was faster than that of race leader Kevin Smith. Using that line, O’Connor nabbed the lead on lap 20 on his way to the win. Smith would settle for the two spot and Craig Moore was third. Smith won the scramble from dead last.
Jon without an H Gunderson led wire to wire in the Outlaw Tuners. Gunderson was chased by Vance Hibbard who could never close in enough to take the lead. Hibbard would take second and Brandon Jansen was third. Clint Meins won the scramble.
