|NASCAR Rising Stars Return to Evergreen Speedway
If you want to see some of the future stars of NASCAR, then you should head to Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA this weekend. The racing Saturday will be featuring both the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West and NASCAR Whelen-All American Super Late Models on the big 5/8th track.
Evergreen Speedway, “The Super Speedway of the West”, is one of the longest running stops for hosting the West Series dating back to 1970 and one of biggest tracks that the series will visit in 2018. With over 275 laps scheduled on the tricky 5/8th mile track, race fans should see some great racing. This weekend the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West will be battling it out for the NAPA Auto Parts 175 Presented by West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame.
Fans will also have the chance to meet NASCAR Hall of Fame Inductee and 4-Time NASCAR Truck Series Champion Ron Hornady, who will be serving as the Grand Marshall. Hornaday had some historic races at Evergreen Speedway including winning the 100th NASCAR Truck Series race in 1999 with a $100,000 Bonus. Hornaday will be available for Autographs at the Fanfest at 530pm.
In the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, it’s been an interesting year with a changing of the guards on top of the point standings with the Sunrise Ford teammates of Derek Thorn and Ryan Partridge battling for the Championship. Both drivers have found success at the track but still looking for their first win.
The Bill McAnally teammates of Derek Kraus, Cole Rouse and Hailie Deegan have some big shoes to fill as BMR has won the last two races at Evergreen Speedway with Todd Gilliland and Chris Eggleston at the wheel. Kraus has two wins on the year while both Rouse and Deegan are looking to capture their first series wins.
Other notables to keep your eye on this weekend is Evergreen Speedway regular Tyler Tanner doing double duty as he will race for Jefferson Pitt Racing. Tanner’s teammate this weekend will be Cole Keatts, who will be making his homecoming to Snohomish County. Keatts has never raced on the oval track of Evergreen Speedway but the local driver participated in the Red Bull Global Rally Cross event last year at the track.
With a stout field of entries for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West coming in from all over, the field of Super Late Models are just as impressive with 25 plus cars expected for the Heritage Distilling 100. This is a fifth race of the Bud Crown Series at Evergreen Speedway as drivers from across the Northwest are looking to tame the big track.
Northwest legends Gary Lewis and Pete Harding will be on hand to take on some of the rising stars from throughout the Northwest. Garret Archer holds the current points lead for the Championship and Brittney Zamora has a tight grab on the lead for the Bud Crown series.
The 5/8th track has showcased some great racing this year and Robb Touchette is looking for his second win of the year after winning the Mark Galloway 150. Lex Johnson had his car running up front in both big track races earlier in the year. Tayler Riddle has been fast everywhere he has gone in 2018 but bad luck has cost him, with multiple DNF in 2018 at Evergreen Speedway.
Add in a strong local contingent of defending Track Champion Trenton Moriarity, double duty drive Tanner, Doni Wanat, Jeff Knight and many more, the race is gearing up to be one of biggest of the year.
Also in action will be the Foster Press Mini Stocks as the field tries to reel in points leader Lane Sundholm. The Les Schwab Street Stocks will be back on the 3/8th track as Steve Ptacek will be looking to hold off the strong field of young guns aiming to take him down.
The weekend kicks off with practice on Friday at the track for Super Late Models and NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. The gates open at Saturday at 2pm with Fan Fest at 5pm to meet all the drivers. Racing will follow at 5:30pm.
