This is where I was first introduced to auto racing. The men that raced these machines were my early childhood heros. I hope you read this and are inspired to share with others the photos and stories of racers, race cars & race tracks that you remember.

Johnny Brazil "The Manteca Terror" in the Joe Mackie Star Broiler" Supermodified. A Winnemucca, Nevada Casino for a Sponsor..Wow.

Jim Eiland of Fresno California- This guy had the biggest and strongest arms I'd ever seen. He had the stature of a fire hydrant and could drive as good as the best at San Jose Speedway. He later went on to win a sprint car season championship at Santa Maria Speedway.

Carmel Fernandez #8: Look in the background and you'll see a faint image of "next generation" of cars to be raced at the Speedway. The transition to one just like the photo below.

Joe Lobia: Check out the "crude" steering components underneath the top of the header. Better hope it doesn't break!

Sweet,Sweet,Sweet....Very cool! Keep em coming..Oh by the way, for those of you that don't know, these cars did not have power steering like everybody has these days...Lots of big arms in those days for steering and fighting!

Yep! I saw lots of those at West Capitol (which this pic is) when I was a kid..They loved to do it on the front straightway in front of the crowd for some reason....Those were the days......(look at the people in the stands, they are cheering)
